Basketball Recap: Mia Mariani Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Paradise

Winters won the last time they faced Paradise and things went their way on Friday too. The Winters Warriors took down the Paradise Bobcats 30-15. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 464th, while the Bobcats are ranked 1104th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Winters got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mia Mariani out in front who posted ten points. Those ten points gave Mariani a new career-high. Maci Dodic was another key player, putting up ten points.

Winters' victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 17.8 points per game. As for Paradise, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Winters will take on Durham at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Winters' defense has only allowed 28.9 points per game this season, so Durham's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Paradise, they will challenge Pierce at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Pierce has three straight wins, Paradise has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
