The Gothenburg Swedes will square off against the Minden Whippets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gothenburg will be strutting in after a win while Minden will be coming in after a defeat.
Gothenburg is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Holdrege: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Swedes blew the Dusters out of the water with a 48-6 final score. Considering the Swedes have won four games by more than 29 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Evan Johnson produced another solid effort rushing for 84 yards and a pair of scores on only eight carries. Another back making a difference was Torren Wind, who rushed for 89 yards on only six carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Gothenburg was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 295 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Holdrege only rushed for 182.

Gothenburg's defense stepped up as well, laying out Lucas Johnson four times. Leading the way was Jaxon Earll with two sacks. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.3 total tackles per game. Gothenburg received some extra help from Axel Jorgenson, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Minden's offense. They took a blow against Broken Bow on Friday, falling 30-0. The Whippets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The victory made it two in a row for Gothenburg and bumps their season record up to 6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points over those games. As for Minden, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Gothenburg has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 230.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Minden struggles in that department as they've been averaging 202 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Gothenburg against Minden in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 32-0 victory. Will the Swedes repeat their success, or do the Whippets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
