San Mateo gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They never let the Mission Bears get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Bearcats in their matchups with the Bears: they've now won three in a row.
Christian Louie made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in February of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other pitching news, Tyce Copus looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.
Back at the plate, Hayato Nishiyama was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Julian Bleess, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI.
San Mateo hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in five consecutive matches dating back to last season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Bearcats challenge the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mission, they will square off against Jefferson at 4:00 p.m. on March 5th.
