After an up and down regular season against a challenging schedule,
St. Xavier (Cincinnati) got a big lift in its Ohio Division 1 state playoff opener from sophomore quarterback
Chase Herbstreit, who threw for 232 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a 42-28 win over Fairfield.
Herbstreit is the son of ESPN College GameDay star and NFL Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime broadcaster Kirk Herbstreit. Chase, listed at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, is the youngest of four boys in the family.

In six games since taking over as the starter at St. Xavier (5-6), Chase has thrown for 729 yards. The Bombers face rival Archbishop Moeller on Friday in the regional quarterfinals.
