Softball Recap: Florence Starts Season with Loss at Home

Florence unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell 6-3 to the Gunnison Cowboys on Saturday. If the Huskies were looking for revenge after losing 12-2 to the Cowboys when the teams met back in September of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Addison Dalton put in work no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Dalton was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Lilly Roe was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. She has been hot for a while, having posted two or more stolen bases the last 11 times she's played. Kendra Steffenson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Gunnison's record now sits at 3-1.

Florence has already played their next contest, a 13-1 win against Sierra on the 30th. As for Gunnison, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, an 11-10 victory against Rocky Ford on the 29th.
