Baseball Recap: Woodlake Makes It Three in a Row at Home

Woodlake barely beat Wonderful College Prep Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Wolves a 13-0 shutout on Wednesday. With that victory, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

Uziel Nanez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brenden Doyle, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-1. Elias Lang was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

Woodlake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Woodlake pushed their record up to 5-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Wonderful College Prep Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Coincidentally, Woodlake and Wonderful College Prep Academy will both be playing Granite Hills the next time they take the field. The Tigers will host the Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Wolves will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
