The St. Mary's Rams will challenge the Pleasant Grove Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as St. Mary's comes in on three and Pleasant Grove on five.
St. Mary's is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They skirted past Central Valley 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rams have posted since April 4th.
Nico Bavaro spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on two hits and racked up 11 Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brady Errecart, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Ethan Silva, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Pleasant Grove gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They had just enough and edged out Lincoln 13-11. The game was the first time the Eagles have beaten the Trojans on their field since March 16, 2023.
Thomas Jensen looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Nolan Underwood was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Cole Davis was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Pleasant Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Pleasant Grove's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-11. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for St. Mary's, their victory bumped their record up to 22-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. St. Mary's has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pleasant Grove struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
