The Vasquez Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the Palmdale Falcons at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Vasquez is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.
On Wednesday, Vasquez got the win against Faith Baptist by a conclusive 13-6. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.
Luke Real made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Landon McGriff, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Landon Jensen, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Vasquez kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
Highland hit Palmdale with a four-run third inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Falcons lost 9-2 to the Bulldogs. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Benjamin Cisneros made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Vasquez's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Palmdale, their loss dropped their record down to 6-17.
Vasquez beat Palmdale 12-8 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
