Eaton is on an eight-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Palmer Ridge is on a nine-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Reds will host the Bears at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Eaton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.9 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Eaton got the win against Southeast Colorado by a conclusive 7-1. The result was nothing new for the Reds, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Kenzie Braddy and Bria Foster made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Braddy tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Foster kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Braddy went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double, while Foster went 3-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That double was Braddy's first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rayelle Navarro, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Paige Hofer was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Palmer Ridge faced Elizabeth in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Bears lost 8-2 to the Cardinals. The match marked the Bears' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Pam Boyarko spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Palmer Ridge saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Savanah Martinez, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Eaton's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Palmer Ridge, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 7-1.
Palmer Ridge's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Eaton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Palmer Ridge, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Eaton keep running through batters, or will the Bears buck the trend?
Everything went Eaton's way against Palmer Ridge when the teams last played back in September of 2023, as Eaton made off with a 10-0 victory. Do the Reds have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bears turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
