Video: Top Plays of the Week // Week 4Steve Montoya and Chris Stonebraker tackle the best of the best from around the country.
Although the 2018 Nebraska high school football season is just getting under way, several of the Cornhusker State's top talents are playing at a very high level.
Baylor Scheierman of Aurora has already completed 65-of-96 passes and thrown for more than 1,200 yards and 19 touchdowns through three weeks of Nebraska's prep football season. But the 6-foot-6 senior signal caller was especially sharp against Kearney Catholic in the second week of the season, completing nearly 60 percent of his passes for 507 yards and eight touchdowns in a 39-point win over the Stars.
Cy Bullerman, Jordan Stevenson, Cade Reichardt and Ryan Hunter caught two scoring passes each in the win with Bullerman, Stevenson and Reichardt all going over 100 yards receiving after catching 20 balls between them. Kamden Schwartz of Kearney Catholic did throw for 241 yards in the loss, completing 9-of-16 passes for three touchdowns. In all, the two programs accounted for 777 yards through the air.
Maxwell's Delano Hernandez and Isaac Wahls of Loomis take the Nos. 2 and 3 spots, respectively, this week after running for over 800 yards on the ground and 15 touchdowns collectively in wins over Morrill and Blue Hill. Omaha Bryan's Antoine Curtis grabbed eight balls for 239 yards and three scores against South Sioux City to sit No. 4, while Austin Rice of Neligh-Oakdale rounds out this week's Top 5 after hanging onto 12 aerials for 243 yards and a touchdown in a 38-34 loss to Ainsworth.
Classes A, C1, C2, D1, D2 and D6 (Six-Man) are all represented in this week's Top 10. But plenty of Class B athletes performed at a high level as well. Norris' Ashton Hausmann returned four kickoffs and three punts for 202 yards and rushed for 122 yards on 27 carries to erupt for 324 all purpose yards in a 30-13 win over Crete Aug. 31 to lead all Class B performances to date.
