The Greenfield Bruins will square off against the Monte Vista Christian Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Greenfield 2.7, Monte Vista Christian 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Monte Vista Christian is facing Greenfield at the wrong time: Greenfield suffered their first home loss of the season on Friday and they're likely out for redemption. They fell just short of the Condors by a score of 3-2. The contest marked the Bruins' lowest-scoring match so far this season.
Nate Trujillo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Greenfield saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isaac Ramos, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Monte Vista Christian owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Saturday. They put the hurt on Pacific Grove with a sharp 7-0 win. Considering the Mustangs have won six games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Jackson Haddad made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Haddad was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Evan Vessey and Carter Wright did most of the damage at the plate: Vessey went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Wright scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Mikie Melenudo, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.
The victory made it two in a row for Monte Vista Christian and bumps their season record up to 9-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Greenfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-2.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Greenfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .373. However, it's not like Monte Vista Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .372. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
