Narragansett and Burrillville are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Mariners will be playing in front of their home fans against the Broncos at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Narragansett's pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so Burrillville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Narragansett fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Chariho on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Chargers by a score of 4-3. The Mariners' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Jackson Hohl was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Drez Owens, who went 1-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Burrillville faced Central in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Broncos put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 18-8 win. The victory was nothing new for the Broncos as they're now sitting on five straight.
Burrillville let AJ Escalera and Jack Dichiaro run wild. Escalera got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and three RBI, while Dichiaro got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three RBI gave Escalera a new career-high. Jordan Furtado was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Burrillville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Burrillville pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Narragansett, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 4-2.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Narragansett hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. However, it's not like Burrillville struggles in that department as they've averaged .312. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Narragansett took their win against Burrillville in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 7-0 score. Will the Mariners repeat their success, or do the Broncos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
