Basketball Recap: Keara Hasan's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Steele Canyon over Fallbrook

Steele Canyon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 55-43 to the Fallbrook Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 762nd, while the Warriors are ranked 313th).

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Keara Hasan, who posted nine points. Those nine points gave Hasan a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of La'Veyha Iglehart, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Steele Canyon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

Fallbrook was led to victory by Janice Garcia and Grace Nordeen. Garcia dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten boards, while Nordeen dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 rebounds. Nordeen has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 46 times she's played. Charlotte Brunson also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Steele Canyon's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Fallbrook, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-5.

Steele Canyon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 52-49 defeat against San Diego on the 7th. As for Fallbrook, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 71-29 win against Del Norte on the 14th.
