The Middletown Mustangs will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Credo Gryphon at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Middletown will be strutting in after a win while Credo will be coming in after a defeat.
Middletown came out on top against Tomales on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Braves with a sharp 10-3 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.
Cody Perez and Cody De Jong were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Perez tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, De Jong pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). At the plate, Perez got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while De Jong went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Perez is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, Hayden Xavier was excellent, going 3-for-5 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Austin Davis was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Middletown was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tomales only posted a batting average of .222.
Meanwhile, Credo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of The Bay School. On the bright side, the four- run performance marked the Gryphon's highest-scoring matchup to date.
Credo saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Magnus Canterbury, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those hits were Canterbury's first of the season.
Credo's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Middletown, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Middletown's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. The Mustangs have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Credo, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Middletown continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Middletown's way against Credo when the teams last played last Friday, as Middletown made off with a 16-0 win. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Gryphon turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
