Cypress Springs hasn't had much luck against Waller recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Panthers will host the Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. Waller took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Cypress Springs, who comes in off a win.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Cypress Springs turned things around against Cypress Park on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 3-0 win. The Panthers not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since August 26th (when they won 3-0).
The victory didn't come easy: Cypress Park scored at least 21 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-21, 25-22.
Meanwhile, Waller came up short against Langham Creek on Tuesday and fell 3-1. While the Bulldogs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Lobos 25-21 in the first set.
Waller started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-20.
Cypress Springs will have to keep a close watch on Kristin Nichols and Lexi Huynh, a pair of players who had a big impact on Waller's prior game. Nichols had 11 digs and three aces, while Huynh had 11 digs. Cassie Webb also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.
Waller's loss dropped their record down to 23-14. As for Cypress Springs, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 10-22.
Cypress Springs suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Waller in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
