Basketball Game Preview: Cheyenne Desert Shields vs. Somerset Sky Pointe Eagles

The Cheyenne Desert Shields will challenge the Somerset Sky Pointe Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Cheyenne is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.

Cheyenne saw some tournament action on Monday. They fell to Valley 58-54.

Despite their loss, Cheyenne saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Igniz Segovia-Gonzalez, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Segovia-Gonzalez is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last three games he's played. Jonathan Castile was another key player, going 7 of 8 on his way to 16 points.

Even though they lost, Cheyenne was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Somerset Sky Pointe didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Pahrump Valley on Saturday, but they still walked away with a 56-50 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Somerset Sky Pointe's win came from a few key players Cheyenne will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Emmitt Bell, who posted 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'Cory Gory, who put up 14 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.

Somerset Sky Pointe's victory bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Cheyenne, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-12.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Cheyenne has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Somerset Sky Pointe struggles in that department as they've been averaging 22.2 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
