Patrick Henry and Point Loma are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Patrick Henry Patriots will host the Point Loma Pointers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Patrick Henry's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Point Loma has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
On Saturday, Patrick Henry beat Del Lago Academy 48-38.
Patrick Henry's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ayla Collins, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 14 points along with six boards and five steals. Collins continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Ally Mangahis was another key player, putting up 11 points and three steals.
Patrick Henry smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Point Loma played a tough match on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 80-9 loss at the hands of Christian. The game marked the Pointers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Patrick Henry will need focus on slowing down Hannah Smith, one of several Point Loma players who made an impact when they last played. She posted four points and eight rebounds. Smith has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last five times she's played.
Point Loma's defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Patrick Henry, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Patrick Henry has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 29.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Point Loma struggles in that department as they've been averaging 41.9 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Patrick Henry didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Point Loma in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 47-43 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Point Loma's Rachael Morris, who almost dropped a triple-double on 21 points, 18 boards, and nine steals. Now that she won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be easier for Patrick Henry to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
