The Westchester Comets waltzed into their game on Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 42-29 win over Long Beach Poly. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Westchester also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Westchester's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mariah Blake, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks. Blake is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Savannah Myles was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Westchester's win bumped their record up to 13-4. As for Long Beach Poly, they bumped their record down to 10-7 with that loss, which was their third straight at home.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westchester will square off against Fairfax at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Fairfax will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 639th, while Westchester is ranked 75th). As for Long Beach Poly, they will head out on the road to take on Lakewood at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
