The Compton Tarbabes will head out on the road to face off against the Dominguez Dons at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Compton is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.
Compton couldn't beat Long Beach Poly on Friday even though they stacked seven runs on them in the sixth inning. The Tarbabes took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jackrabbits.
Compton got a good showing from Max Martinez, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Those zero earned runs gave Martinez a new career-low.
On the hitting side, Andrew Ruiz made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Max Mosqueda, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Dominguez, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Centennial 10-9. The victory continues a trend for the Dons in their matchups with the Apaches: they've now won four in a row.
Jesus Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and six unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 13 Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nathen Acosta, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Dominguez's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-17 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Juilian Laguna, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Dominguez kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 4-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Dominguez's win bumped their record up to 7-17. As for Compton, their loss dropped their record down to 13-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Compton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Dominguez struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Compton beat Dominguez 7-2 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tarbabes since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
