The Leadore Mustangs suffered their biggest loss since December 13, 2023 on Monday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 72-47 walloping at the hands of North Gem. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Leadore has suffered against North Gem since December 15, 2020.
Leadore's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dane Piippo, who scored 16 points along with five blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Porter Mayo, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead North Gem to victory, but perhaps none more so than Evan O'Brien, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. O'Brien hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Gage Setser, who scored 16 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Leadore has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for North Gem, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Leadore will take on Rockland at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. North Gem won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Taylor's Crossing at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd.
