The Ygnacio Valley Wolves will head out on the road to face off against the Northgate Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Ygnacio Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 464th, while Northgate is ranked 194th).
Ygnacio Valley suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. They were beaten by Clayton Valley Charter 73-35. Ygnacio Valley's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Sa'rye Starks, who scored 17 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Starks is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was K'Si Brooks, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, Northgate can now show off nine landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They blew past Concord 56-27 at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Northgate has posted since November 17, 2023.
Northgate's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hana Neuman, who scored 20 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Neuman has scored all season. Maddison Sardelich was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Ygnacio Valley bumped their record down to 12-8 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Northgate, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Ygnacio Valley have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 28.1 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Northgate, though, as they've been averaging only 34.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Ygnacio Valley ended up a good deal behind Northgate when the teams last played back in December of 2022, losing 51-37. Thankfully for Ygnacio Valley, Tade Scheid (who scored ten points along with three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
