The Mt. Carmel Sundevils will be playing in front of their home fans against the Fallbrook Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Mt. Carmel focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Saturday.
Mt. Carmel won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Saturday. They took a serious blow against El Capitan, falling 73-27. While losing is never fun, Mt. Carmel can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 815th, while El Capitan is ranked 357th).
The losing side was boosted by Grace Weede, who scored 13 points along with two steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.
Mt. Carmel struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as El Capitan racked up 24 assists.
Meanwhile, Fallbrook stacked a ninth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Escondido, posting a 61-31 victory on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Fallbrook has posted against Escondido since January 14, 2020.
Mt. Carmel's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-14. As for Fallbrook, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season.
Mt. Carmel opened the new year with a less-than-successful 71-64 defeat to Fallbrook. Thankfully for Mt. Carmel, Brooke Quintana (who scored 32 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
