The Verdugo Hills Dons will challenge the Roosevelt Rough Riders at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Verdugo Hills comes in on five and Roosevelt on seven.
Verdugo Hills is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They blew past Rolling Hills Prep 11-2.

Jered Smith made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Verdugo Hills' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 11-18 when he doesn't).
In other pitching news, JC Ramirez looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2025.
Back at the plate, Hasen Macias and Cutlor Fannon did most of the damage at the plate: Macias got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and one double, while Fannon went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases Fannon has posted since back in March of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of D'Angelo Duran, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs.
Verdugo Hills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Roosevelt came out on top against Rancho Alamitos on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run third inning. The Rough Riders took their contest against the Vaqueros 7-4.
Maddoxx Davila made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Davila was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, Jayden Sanchez was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That double was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Izaiah Cortez, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Verdugo Hills' victory bumped their record up to 15-18. As for Roosevelt, their win bumped their record up to 11-17.
