Hilmar is 2-8 against Escalon since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Hilmar Yellowjackets will look to defend their home court against the Escalon Cougars at 5:30 p.m. The timing isn't great for Hilmar: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Escalon has snatched up six consecutive wins on the road.
Last Tuesday, Hilmar was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 38-34 to Livingston.
The match pitted two dominant centers against one another in Alicia Souza and Adriana Cervantes Molina. Cervantes Molina had a great game and dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Meanwhile, Souza did her best for the losing side, scoring 11 points.
Even though they lost, Hilmar smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Livingston only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
Meanwhile, Escalon beat Hughson 43-36 on Tuesday.
Escalon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Arianna Velasco, who scored 11 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sammy Lang, who scored 13 points along with seven steals and five rebounds.
Hilmar has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season. As for Escalon, their victory bumped their record up to 24-2.
