Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Westwood walked away with it. They never let the Heritage Preparatory Rams get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Friday. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Cade Swilley made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Westwood is 8-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-8 otherwise. Swilley was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Liam Rogers was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Karson Barwick was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases.
Westwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .578. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Heritage Preparatory only posted an OBP of .320.
Westwood has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Heritage Preparatory, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-14-1.
Coming up, Westwood will face off against David Emanuel Academy on Friday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season. Heritage Preparatory does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
