If the Cleveland Cavaliers were riding high off their 51-17 takedown of the Moorpark Musketeers last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Cleveland fell just short of St. Monica by a score of 49-47. Cleveland lost against St. Monica in their previous head to head back in November of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 54-48 score last time.
When it comes to explaining why Cleveland lost on Monday, one person who can't be blamed is Gabriella Calderon. Despite the final result, she scored 22 points. Calderon scored a full 46.8% of Cleveland's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Valerie Anzora, who scored 9 points along with 10 rebounds.
Cleveland's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for St. Monica, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Cleveland will face off against St. Mary's Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Monica, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Bishop Amat at 7:00 p.m.
