The Reseda Regents will face off against the Maywood CES Wolfpack at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Reseda will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
Reseda will bounce into Saturday's game after beating Canoga Park, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Regents were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Hunters on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Regents, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.
JIM FERNANDEZ made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, DANIEL VALAZQUEZ and DON BARAJAS did most of the damage at the plate: VALAZQUEZ scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while BARAJAS scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was ESTEVAN LIMON, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, while Maywood CES put up some runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Elizabeth. The Wolfpack didn't even let the Bulldogs on the board, marking the Wolfpack's second-straight 10-0 shutout. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wolfpack.
Like Reseda, Maywood CES also got a great game from a two-way player: Brian Aguirre. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Aguirre was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on David Aguirre, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Reseda pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Maywood CES, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Reseda has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Maywood CES struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
