The Exeter Monarchs had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They snuck past Central Valley Christian with a 54-50 victory on Friday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Exeter also won the last time the pair played back in January.
Exeter found their leader in underclassman Chloe Sparrow, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sparrow has scored all season. Ashlyn Venegas was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five assists and four steals.
Central Valley Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kate Verhoeven, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ally Lane, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Central Valley Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 37 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Exeter's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 16-10. As for Central Valley Christian, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season.
Exeter will head out on the road to challenge the Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Washington Union is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home. Central Valley Christian will take on the Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Immanuel presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Cavaliers in California (the Eagles are ranked 412th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 909th).
