The College Park Falcons managed to keep up with the Mt. Diablo Red Devils until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. College Park's tough 64-44 defeat to the Red Devils might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, College Park can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 394th, while the Red Devils are ranked 146th).
College Park's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nyela Pete, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Ochoa, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Makayla Powell continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Mt. Diablo, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 75 rebounds. Powell is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 11 or more in the last three games she's played. Natalie Dance was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with five steals.
College Park are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-8. As for Mt. Diablo, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-3.
College Park will head out on the road to face off against the Ugly Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Clayton Valley Charter focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Saturday. As for Mt. Diablo, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Matadors at 7:00 p.m. Miramonte is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
