It was a good run, but the Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack unfortunately witnessed the end of their ten-game winning streak on Thursday. The contest between Elgin/Pope John and St. Mary's wasn't particularly close, with Elgin/Pope John falling 57-42. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Elgin/Pope John has scored all season.
Several Wolfpack players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ashlynne Charf, who scored 12 points. The match was Charf's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Brenna Martinsen was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
St. Mary's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lorissa Reiman led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds. Reiman has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mya Hedstrom, who scored 14 points along with seven assists and six rebounds.
Elgin/Pope John's defeat ended a 11-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 10-1. As for St. Mary's, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
Elgin/Pope John will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Bloomfield at 2:00 p.m. As for St. Mary's, they will face off against McCool Junction at 12:10 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (McCool Junction is ranked 53rd, while St. Mary's is ranked 60th).
