Lakeview Charter got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Liliana Word out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards. Word has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Heyli Edwards, who posted no points in addition to eight rebounds and six steals.
Lakeview Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Marquez didn't have too much trouble with Math & Science College Preparatory on Friday as they won 41-25.
Marquez's win came from a few key players Lakeview Charter will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Magaly Gonzalez, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten steals. That's the most steals she has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Corshell Vaughn, who had eight points and 23 boards.
Marquez has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.0 points per game. As for Lakeview Charter, their record now sits at 6-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Lakeview Charter has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Marquez struggles in that department as they've been averaging 42 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Lakeview Charter didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Marquez in their previous meeting back in November, but they still walked away with a 37-31 win. Does Lakeview Charter have another victory up their sleeve, or will Marquez turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
