Bret Harte hasn't had much luck against Linden recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Bullfrogs will take on the Lions at 4:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Bret Harte sitting on three straight wins and Linden on ten.
On Saturday, Bret Harte earned a 9-6 victory over Calaveras. That's two games straight that the Bullfrogs have won by exactly three runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Linden). They put the hurt on Big Valley Christian with a sharp 18-4 win on Saturday. The result was nothing new for Linden, who have now won 12 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Marco Holguin and Matthew Schallberger were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Holguin tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Schallberger didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances. At the plate, Holguin went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Schallberger got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Holguin has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Jake Daluz was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Braden Busalacchi, who got on base in three of his six plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Linden pushed their record up to 17-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Bret Harte, their record now sits at 15-7.
Bret Harte came up short against Linden in their previous matchup back in March, falling 3-0. Can the Bullfrogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
