If the St. Joseph Academy Crusaders were feeling good off their 52-24 takedown of the Classical Academy Caimans on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. St. Joseph Academy had to suffer through a rough 75-35 loss at the hands of Victory Christian Academy. While losing is never fun, St. Joseph Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 605th, while Victory Christian Academy is ranked 186th).
Despite the loss, St. Joseph Academy still got an impressive performance from Luciana Aguilar, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds. Aguilar has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. Pamela Torres was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds.
Victory Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mai'ana Norita led the charge by scoring 24 points along with seven assists and three steals. The matchup was Norita's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kami Demara, who scored 23 points along with six rebounds.
St. Joseph Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Victory Christian Academy, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Joseph Academy will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Pacific Ridge at 5:30 p.m. on January 9th. Pacific Ridge is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. As for Victory Christian Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against San Juan Hills at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. San Juan Hills is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 56.8 points per game.
