The South Tahoe Vikings struggled with offensive rebounds on Wednesday (the Lowry Buckaroos had 13 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. South Tahoe's rough 62-38 defeat to Lowry might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, South Tahoe can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 41st in California, while Lowry is ranked fourth in Nevada).
When it comes to explaining why South Tahoe lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ava Wolfe. Despite the final result, she scored 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Kwachak hall, who scored six points along with three steals.
South Tahoe struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Savannah Stoker was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 15 rebounds for Lowry. The contest was Stoker's tenth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Britain Backus, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
South Tahoe now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Lowry, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Tahoe will face off against Churchill County at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Churchill County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Saturday. Lowry will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Timberline at 8:00 p.m. on December 28th.
