Baseball Game Preview: South East Jaguars vs. Hamilton Yankees

South East hasn't had much luck against Hamilton recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Jaguars will challenge the Yankees at 3:00 p.m. Hamilton took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on South East, who comes in off a win.

South East is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Garfield on Thursday as they made off with a 15-4 victory. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last eight times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Jonathan Castro tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits.

At the plate, Nathan Munoz and Anthony Gutierrez did most of the damage at the plate: Munoz went a perfect 4-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Gutierrez went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave Gutierrez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Xavier Velasco, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Hamilton came up short against Venice on Friday, falling 10-4. The Yankees have struggled against the Gondoliers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

South East's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-17. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Hamilton, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-13.

South East couldn't quite finish off Hamilton in their previous matchup back in April of 2021 and fell 4-2. Can the Jaguars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
