The Gregori Jaguars waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with four straight wins but they left with five. They took down Turlock 55-36. Given Gregori's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 444th, while Turlock is ranked 891st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gregori was led to victory by Veronica Whitten and Lilly Staggs. Whitten scored eight points along with 15 rebounds and six blocks, while Staggs scored 17 points along with four steals. Whitten is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Morris, who scored eight points.
Gregori's victory bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Turlock, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost ten of their last 13 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gregori will take on Enochs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Enochs focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 37 last Tuesday. As for Turlock, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Pitman at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Pitman focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Thursday.
