It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Santiago Cavaliers ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They walked away with a 48-41 victory over Los Amigos. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Santiago also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Los Amigos' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Madeleine Nguyen, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Sophia Boyer who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds. Boyer is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mandy Le, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Santiago has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-14 record this season. As for Los Amigos, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost nine of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.
Santiago won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Pacifica at 6:00 p.m. on January 20th. Pacifica presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Santiago in California (Pacifica is ranked 267th, while Santiago is ranked 856th). As for Los Amigos, they will be playing in front of their home fans against La Quinta at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully La Quinta focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday.
