Wauneta-Palisade is 0-4 against Sumner-Eddyville-Miller since October of 2020 but things could change on Friday. The Broncos will take on the Mustangs at 2:30 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Friday.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller will be up against a hot Wauneta-Palisade squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Broncos simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Paxton 66-20. That looming 66-20 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Broncos yet this season.
Kreyton Wiese produced another solid effort rushing for 131 yards and five TDs while picking up 7.7 yards per carry, and also catching one score.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Wauneta-Palisade was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 276 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 158 rushing yards in 12 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Wauneta-Palisade didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Wyatt Hilbert led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sumner-Eddyville-Miller). They took their game on Thursday with ease, bagging a 61-28 win over Medicine Valley. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won three contests by 21 points or more so far this season.
Wauneta-Palisade better keep an eye on Jordan Scoville. He was instrumental in Sumner-Eddyville-Miller's win, rushing for 118 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries, while also picking up 38 receiving yards and one TD. Scoville didn't just play on offense: he also picked up a sack and made ten total tackles (3.0 for loss). Chance Daake was another key player, throwing for 82 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Wauneta-Palisade's record now sits at 4-0. As for Sumner-Eddyville-Miller, their record is now 3-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Wauneta-Palisade has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 286.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Sumner-Eddyville-Miller struggles in that department as they've been averaging 160 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Wauneta-Palisade might still be hurting after the 54-30 defeat they got from Sumner-Eddyville-Miller in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Broncos were down 32-8.
