Softball Recap: Union Grove Makes It Five in a Row at Home

Union Grove had won five straight at home, but on Thursday they bumped up to 17-4 to make it six. They put the hurt on the Hampton Hornets with a sharp 16-1 win. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 contests by six runs or more this season.

Union Grove let Lauren Jordan and Braelynn Stroud run wild. Jordan went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Stroud went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Stroud a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jada Jackson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Union Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .526 or higher in three consecutive games.

As for Hampton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 14 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season. Having soared to a lofty 24 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Hampton's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Briana Peugnet, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Coming up, Union Grove will challenge Pike County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wolverines 2.3, the Pirates 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Hampton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
