The Rodriguez Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Justin-Siena Braves at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Last Saturday, Rodriguez was able to grind out a solid win over Bishop O'Dowd, taking the game 11-7. Considering the Mustangs' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Bennett Giaramitta looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, Rodriguez got a massive performance out of Jack Jacobson, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave Jacobson a new career-high. Benjaman 'BJ' Smith was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Meanwhile, everything went Justin-Siena's way against Rancho Cotate on Wednesday as Justin-Siena made off with an 11-3 victory. Considering the Braves have won four contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Griffin Messenger tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero hits, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tommy Malloy, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Henry Meyers also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Justin-Siena always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rancho Cotate only posted an OBP of .276.
The win made it two in a row for Justin-Siena and bumps their season record up to 5-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11.5 runs. As for Rodriguez, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Rodriguez has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Justin-Siena struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Rodriguez couldn't quite finish off Justin-Siena when the teams last played back in March of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can Rodriguez avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
