The High Point Academy Grizzlies are on the road again on Friday and play against the Scott's Branch Eagles on December 22nd. High Point Academy's defense has only allowed 30 points per game this season, so Scott's Branch's offense will have their work cut out for Scott's Branch.
On Monday, High Point Academy strolled past Chesnee with points to spare, taking the game 47-30. Given High Point Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while Chesnee is ranked 266th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
High Point Academy's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Cherri Yates, who scored 12 points, and Chantel Lyles, who scored 16 points. The game was Lyles' eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Johnasia Wilkins, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, Scott's Branch fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Bethune-Bowman on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mohawks by a score of 32-30.
High Point Academy's win was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 26.11 points. As for Scott's Branch, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.
High Point Academy lost to Scott's Branch on the road by a decisive 63-49 margin in their previous matchup back in March of 2019. Can High Point Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
