Football Recap: Valley Takes Down Ranked Raft River + How To Watch

Valley faced Raft River in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Vikings took down the Trojans 42-26. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Vikings also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2024.

Leading Valley to victory were Thomas Vargas and Brandt Jones. Vargas rushed for 172 yards and three TDs on only 15 carries, while Jones rushed for 160 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. The dominant performance also gave Jones a new career-high in passing yards (110). Luis Granados also deserves some recognition as he hauled in his first receiving touchdown of the season.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 346 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Raft River's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was McCoy Spencer, who rushed for 106 yards on only 12 carries, and also threw for 64 yards and three TDs. James Dalton was in the mix as well, providing the Trojans with two scores.

Valley has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.4 points over those games. As for Raft River, they moved to 5-2 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Valley will challenge Carey at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' defense has only allowed 11.5 points per game this season, so the Vikings' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Raft River, they will face off against Hagerman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans' defense better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 33.2 points per game this season.
