The Vacaville Bulldogs are taking a road trip to face off against the Rodriguez Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Vacaville's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Rodriguez's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Vacaville couldn't beat Campolindo on Friday even though they stacked five runs on them in the seventh inning. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 7-5. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Vacaville saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dom Yacovetti, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Another was Jimmy Mac Niven, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Rodriguez came tearing into Friday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Royals as they made off with an 8-2 win. The game snapped a strange streak: the last three times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Rodriguez also got a great performance from Jackson Kolakoski as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Kolakoski has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Rodriguez let Sean O'Connell and Ben Vaughn run wild. O'Connell got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Vaughn went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most runs Vaughn has posted since back in March. Alejandro Campos also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
Rodriguez's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Vacaville, their loss dropped their record down to 16-9.
Vacaville came out on top in a nail-biter against Rodriguez in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 9-8. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
