The Mesa Verde Mavericks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They were outmatched by Rio Linda at home and fell 68-28. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Mesa Verde in their matchups with Rio Linda: they've now lost four in a row.
Rio Linda's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mariah Walton led the charge by scoring 16 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Grant, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Mesa Verde dropped their record down to 13-14 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.7 points per game. As for Rio Linda, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 22-5.
Mesa Verde does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Rio Linda, they will be playing at home against Dixon at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dixon is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
