Fullington Academy hasn't had much luck against Valwood recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Trojans will look to defend their home field against the Valiants at 4:30 p.m. Fullington Academy has given up an average of 11.1 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Fullington Academy came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 12-2 to Terrell Academy.
Fullington Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cutter Tharpe, who went 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Another was Clay Sangster, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Valwood narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Deerfield-Windsor 7-6.
Colson Smith made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Smith was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Triston White was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in February.
Valwood pushed their record up to 14-7 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Fullington Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-18.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Fullington Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Valwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Fullington Academy might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Valwood in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Trojans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
