The Grossmont Foothillers will face off against the Point Loma Pointers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Grossmont is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
On Friday, Grossmont came up short against Helix and fell 10-7. Even though they lost, the Foothillers' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.1 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Grossmont saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colton Burke, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles. Trey Crawford was another, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Point Loma, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Cathedral Catholic 5-4 on Friday.
Wyatt Smith looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Wyatt Olson and Ace Selchow did most of the damage at the plate: Olson went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Selchow went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base was Selchow's first of the season.
Point Loma was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cathedral Catholic only posted a batting average of .250.
Point Loma is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Grossmont, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-13.
Grossmont beat Point Loma 5-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Will the Foothillers repeat their success, or do the Pointers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
