The Apple Valley Sun Devils will face off against the Serrano Diamondbacks at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Apple Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
If Apple Valley beats Serrano with nine runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Sun Devils were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over Oak Hills on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Beau Lloyd made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 6.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Lloyd was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
In other batting news, Apple Valley let Isaiah Reveron and Seth Robertson run wild. Reveron scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Robertson scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. What's more, Reveron posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Christopher Alvarez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Apple Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Serrano had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 6-3 win over Hesperia on Thursday. The game was the first time the Diamondbacks have beaten the Scorpions on their field since April 4, 2023.
Logan Wanco was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Brambila, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Apple Valley pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Serrano, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 3-9.
Everything went Apple Valley's way against Serrano in their previous matchup back in March, as Apple Valley made off with a 21-2 win. Will the Sun Devils repeat their success, or do the Diamondbacks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
