Westhill had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 5-4 to make it four. They lost 11-4 to the Cortland Purple Tigers. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Warriors, who until this game were averaging 3.78 runs allowed.
Pete Stroman put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Stroman was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base was his first of the season.
Stroman wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Johnathan Murphy, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
As for Cortland, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.
Like Westhill, Cortland also got a great game from a two-way player: Zach Muir. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Muir has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Caden Albright was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Jaheim Robinson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Coming up, Westhill will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Chittenango at 4:30 p.m. As for Cortland, they are taking a road trip to square off against Jamesville-DeWitt at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
