The Bernstein Dragons suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Saturday. They were beaten by Grand Terrace 66-24. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Bernstein has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Bernstein lost, one person who can't be blamed is Marlin Mendez. Despite the final result, she scored ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Odali Rivera, who scored seven points.
Leading Grand Terrace to victory were Jayleen Barajas and Mikhia Anderson. Barajas scored 27 points along with six rebounds and five assists, while Anderson dropped a triple-double on 22 points, 15 rebounds, and 11 steals. Barajas is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Vanessa Villalobos, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Bernstein has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-8 record this season. As for Grand Terrace, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-7.
Bernstein will be playing in front of their home fans against Roybal at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Roybal is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
