Basketball Game Preview: Nebraska Lutheran Knights vs. Cross County Cougars

Nebraska Lutheran hasn't had much luck against Cross County recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Nebraska Lutheran Knights will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cross County Cougars at 6:00 p.m. Both are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Nebraska Lutheran will bounce into Tuesday's contest after beating McCool Junction, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Everything went Nebraska Lutheran's way against McCool Junction on Thursday as Nebraska Lutheran made off with a 53-28 win.

Nebraska Lutheran can attribute much of their success to Rebecca Hueske, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 steals, and Samantha Hueske, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance gave Rebecca a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Hallie Spreeman, who posted six points.

Nebraska Lutheran smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Cross County entered their tilt with Bruning-Davenport/Shickley on Friday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They blew past the Eagles, posting a 61-34 victory. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while the Eagles are ranked 191st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cross County has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-2 record this season. As for Nebraska Lutheran, their win bumped their record up to 9-5.

Nebraska Lutheran was dealt a bruising 56-25 defeat at the hands of Cross County in their previous meeting back in January of 2024.
